From NBC New York: After a gay server at a New Jersey restaurant said a customer denied her a tip and wrote her a hateful note on the receipt, a local family contacted NBC 4 New York and said their receipt shows they paid a tip and didn't write any such note.
This is exactly what I had feared. An NJ family has come forward and confirmed that they did give lesbian waitress, Dayna Morales, a tip (as a matter of fact, the husband refused to vote for Chris Christie because of his stance on same-sex marriage). Of course, none of this detracts from the reality of anti-LGBT bigotry. But if it turns out that this was indeed a false allegation, then Morales will have done a huge disservice to the LGBT community by rendering people more skeptical or apathetic to even honest claims of bigotry.
